Soul to Soul

Soul to Soul is one of the few clubs in Milan that specialises in Afro-American music – but it’s less ghetto fabulous and much more cosy, set in a 1930s gentlemen’s social club. With a log fire, dark wooden panelling and original features like the solid wood and brass bar, brass pendulum lights and an apothecary chest, this is a curious yet charming little place.
rnOf course they’ve ‘bombed’ the walls with graffiti – including a now-priceless piece by the late American graffiti artist Air One. And the brethren – from USA, Senegal and Eritrea – come to give ’nuff respect to Soul to Soul, although here the crowd is mostly white. The music – English, Italian and US rap, hip-hop and R&B – is easy-going yet conducive to working up a sweat.
rnLive soul music with aperitivo is a gentle start to Sundays and Friday is the big night. It’s all pretty relaxed, apart from the members-only door policy (but their tourist-friendly policy opens the door again).
