Hg2 : The Hedonist

With its cranberry and gold carpeting rolling throughout its myriad dining rooms, smattering of antiques, and scrolled chandeliers, Sparks has got that old-school, clubby feel of the kind of place where the oligarchs and honchos of the world make deals over clanking steak knives and ingesting of big, beefy cuts of prime meat.

The original spot was opened in by the Cetta brothers downtown in 1966, but later moved to the current roomier (nearly 700 seats in total) Midtown locale to better serve Manhattan’s movers and shakers. And indeed, the dry-aged prime steak the likes of Sparks’ could butter up even the toughest of power brokers.

Chef Ed Brown, though, calls attention to the incredible wine list (which has won the coveted Grand Award from Wine Spectator since 1981).
