Widely regarded as a golden generation, Israel’s newest crop of artists have gained the attention of collectors and fans throughout the art world. Serge Tiroche, who combined his love for art with a savvy financial background, has stood as a cultivating factor in the local scene since initiating his private collection in 1986. His latest initiative, ST-ART, represents the country’s first artists incubator, a means of facilitating artist growth through a form of ‘angel investing’ and hands-off management. Based in a majestic villa in Jaffa, ST-ART utilizes its headquarters as a gallery space, and is truly one of the city’s best-kept secrets.
Upon reaching ST-ART facilities, you will enter through a charming garden, often used to showcase outdoor installations. The villa is in the Ottoman style, characterized by dome-like arches and high ceilings providing for a flood of natural light. With a breath-taking view of the Mediterranean from its balcony perched atop the Jaffa port, one can only imagine the caliber of effendis who had once taken up residence in this amazing property. The facility hosts temporary exhibits of artists associated with the project, as well as a rotating selection of works from the Tiroche permanent collection. Any art-lover’s stay to Tel Aviv would be incomplete without visiting the villa.
