St Ermin’s Hotel

Fancy meeting some bees? There are about 350,000 of them at St Ermin’s Hotel. Just head up to the third floor and take a peek through the glass at the industrious creatures making honey. Thanks to the hotel’s position in Westminster, the bees have access to many of the city’s major parks (and presumably some great aerial views of nearby Parliament Square and Westminster Abbey). And, of course, the hotel’s rooftop kitchen garden. It makes for some tasty honey, which you can even get a jar of during your stay.

There are plenty other wonderfully noteworthy features of St Ermin’s Hotel. It’s built on the site of 15th century chapel dedicated to the eponymous saint, for example, and built out of a few 19th century mansion buildings, lending the location a certain historic charm. Guests walk up to the hotel through a tree-lined courtyard and, once inside, they can be treated to everything from afternoon tea in the Tea Lounge, cocktails in the bar, or modern European cuisine at the Caxton Grill. Breakfast in bed can even be arranged.

The rooms at St Ermin’s Hotel are decorated in a softly bright palette with yellows and pinks in dominance. There are White Company products in the marble bathrooms and fantastically fluffy robes that make you want to stay snuggled up. And that’s just in the lower-tier rooms. Scale up to one of the suites and you throw a comfortable and stylishly decorated living room into the mix, as well as colourful art on the walls and a king-sized bed from which to survey your temporary kingdom. A suite life, indeed.
