Standard
Old grannies cook food like this, and they do so for a reason. It’s so wholesome, healthy and tasty that the family will come round to visit them again soon. Only this is the deluxe version of comfort food, with calf-brain ravioli, crab cakes and salmon tartare on the menu to go with the cocktails – not that elderly ladies are in the habit of offering you peppered vodka, of course.

rnAnother winner from the owners of Sudestada, which sits on the opposite corner packed with Asian food enthusiasts, the Standard has simpler offerings of meat or fish accompanied by vegetables. Yes, vegetables – something of a novelty in Buenos Aires.
rn
rnStandard’s bare, simple but stylish 1950s-look diner has been given a pristine modern makeover in an attempt to make this restaurant all about the food. And it is. The clientele are now drawn to the duck pie, the shoe-box sized beef on the bone and Standard’s trendy minimalist vibe. It’s homely cuisine with attitude, served in a non-violent gangster setting.
