Sturebaren
Found in one of the light-flooded areas within the Sturegallerian, a ritzy 19th century galleria in Stockholm, Sturebaren is a sleek Spanish cafe-cum-bar. Diners in Sturebaren’s sleek, copper-bedecked space might be there just for the food and the top-notch sangria. Or they could be avid shoppers keen to take on the galleria’s many boutiques and in need of a brief Cava and tapas break before heading back into the sartorial fray. After all, Sturebaren sparkles with bistro-like charm, from the marble countertops to the warm glow of chandelier-like lights. It manages to conjure the feel of an intimate tapas bar while revelling in the riot of light and bustle that comes from its position in the heart of one of Stockholm’s exclusive shopping malls.
The food on offer depends largely on the time of day, with tapas making an appearance in the afternoon, preceded by a buffet offering an embarrassment of salads, charcuterie, freshly baked bread and moreish dips, like hummus and tzatziki, around lunchtime. Sturebaren serves up Spanish classics, like gambas al ajillo (prawns with fresh chilli, garlic and herbs) and croquettes, as well as sweet treats like churros, which come with their own decadent chocolate sauce. But whatever time of day you arrive, expect a meal at Sturebaren to be accompanied by the pop of a Cava cork and the gentle bubble of nearby laughter as friends tuck into plates of rosy-pink Spanish ham, salty smoked almonds, and slices of manchego.
