Sugar factory calls itself ‘a cutting edge multi-disciplinary night theater’, which, despite leaning in the general direction of pompousness, is a fairly accurate description of what this decidedly un-pompous venue does. It’s bread and butter is DJ nights, with a roster of dos that leans towards house and the odd ‘superstar DJ’, but takes in jazz, hip hop, soul, funk, and drum & bass, along with liberal doses of electro and techno. But, the night theatre aspect comes in with the other evenings Sugar Factory hosts, which can take in live performances of anything from traditional jazz to poetry. The crowd tends to be unpretentious, and staff tend to be welcoming. Drinks are reasonably priced, and the atmosphere is one of poseur-free enjoyment. A safe bet for uninhibited jolliness.
