Sunshine Cinema
This isn’t only regarded the best Movie Theatre in NYC, but it’s heralded as having the Best Popcorn, showing the Best American Indies and global Best Cult Films – according to the stream of awards that follow its name. And now we’re putting its name in lights too.
The building, built back in 1898, first served as a Yiddish vaudeville house for over 50 years before being transformed into (partly) what you see today. It originally opened as a movie house called the Houston Hippodrome motion picture theatre – before Landmark Theatre transformed it into one of their super special cinema chains.
Sunshine Cinema opened in 2001 to critical acclaim, offering five state-of-the-art screens (with stadium-style seating) dedicated to first-run independent and foreign films as well as the non-traditional studio shows – this truly is an art house.
Special additions include vegan cookies and ten different popcorn seasonings as well as a Japanese rock garden and a third story glass viewing bridge, with spectacular views over the city.
