The playground that is Roppongi by night may be shrouded in a slightly sleazy reputation with its neon tangle of late night bars. Unless, of course, you make an immediate beeline for the sleek concrete confines of Superdeluxe. A creative underground venue set up by the Tokyo architecture firm Klein Dytham, the space attracts a colorful crowd of artists, designers, photographers and architects.
From pottery performances to experimental noise musicians and installations to live art shows, the packed schedule is as colorful as it is creative. A highlight is the monthly Pecha Kucha night – an event conceived by Klein Dytham and now taking place in cities around the world from Chicago to Canberra. Participants are able to make a snappy presentation on any subject under the sun, using 20 images shown for only 20 seconds each. A must on the cultural clubbing calendar.
