Hg2 : The Hedonist

Perched on the 38th floor of London’s Heron Tower, the main selling point of SUSHISAMBA is the panoramic views across the capital. Having expanded from its original über-hip/kitsch (think Paris Hilton heyday) restaurant in South Beach Miami, the unique mix of Brazilian and Japanese food has taken a while to reach these shores. Stepping out of the glass elevator is like landing in a Neverland populated by bankers and their trophy girlfriends. SUSHISAMBA’s Asian-inspired décor of giant cross-hatched bamboo arches is adorned with hanging lamps and in the centre of the open-air Orange Tree Bar – a giant fairy-lit orange tree. Prices are as inflated as the attendant egos, with what can only be described as a ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ special of 1kg of Kobe Beef Ishiyaki setting you back more than a return flight to either of SUSHISAMBA’s influences. Despite all the above carping, the food is actually very good, and the views across London nothing short of spectacular. The wonderful al fresco terrace is the highest in the city and if you can plug in your MP3 player and drown out some awful conversations, then you will have an amazing experience.
