Tadich Grill
Opened in 1849 as a coffee stand, now a seafood restaurant, Tadich Grill is the oldest of all San Francisco restaurants. Favourites include the sand dabs and the clam chowder, simple classics it has been doing well for decades, both of which go beautifully with crusty sourdough bread (made on the spot daily) and butter. A long counter offers extensive seating for singles, who will feel right at home, especially at lunchtime, when the Financial District hits the place in force. Two or more can tuck into one of the semiprivate wooden booths. During the week, diners arrive straight from their offices. On weekends, couples and small groups visiting the city prevail.
