Mediterranean influences have brought much more than amazing ice cream, crunchy pizzas and home made pasta to BA’s gastronomic scene. The Spanish left their stamp too and today potato-freaks can happily find superb tortillas at some secret spots in the city.
Tancat is one of them, a pearl in the heart of the dusty downtown: small, cozy, and with a generous bar full of antipasti that hypnotizes whoever passes by the door. The menu will seduce you with great seafood dishes but the right place to be is at the bar chatting with the waitress (the real ones, not the new generation model type you find at Palermo Soho trendy restos).
With your dry beer in hand, choose whatever tempts you the most from all the dishes spread along the bar. All food is great, but don’t leave Tancat without trying some gambas al ajillo (scampi), grilled vegetable salad and the unforgettable tortilla.
Tancat is always full and becomes a little bit noisy, but after 12 years it still takes the prize of some of the best food in downtown.
