Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos
Of the opera houses in Lisbon the Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos is the most beautiful; built in the late 18th century inspired by La Scala and today is a place for opera, classical music and ballet. Excellent acoustics and a stunning rococo interior regularly wow audiences.
The state-run Orquestra Sinfonica Portuguesa is based here. The theatre also organises the Musica em Novembro festival of contemporary music. Operatic seasons vary and tickets range between €8 and €15.
