Ten Bompas Hotel
Ten Bompas was originally a private home tucked down a road in one of Jo’burg’s leafy suburbs. It has since been converted onto one of Jo’burg’s most popular boutique hotels. The striking modern design, replete with long elegant curves and clean simple lines, is infused with contemporary African art and sculpture lining the walls of the balconies. The ten suites are simple, colourful and comfortable, with each being split into living room and bedroom; they all open up into the garden or onto a small balcony. Kitted out with a free mini-bar, steam bath and
a fireplace it is up to guests to inject their own brand of romance. One of the real selling points of Ten Bompas is the restaurant, Sides. In 2005 it was ranked in the top 10 in South Africa, something that might be to do with the impressive size of its cellar, home to almost 5,000 different wines.
