Terrasse des Epices
Terrasse des Epices is the new venture from the owners of the popular Café des Epices and this Marrakech bistro is sprawled across the roof terrace of a Moroccan artisan shopping centre in the medina. It’s a vastly different operation to its sister establishment, catering to a more upmarket crowd with a stronger design aesthetic, broader menu and more professional service. Comprised of a series of covered, black-walled alcoves arranged around the rooftop, with tables and cushioned areas in the exposed center (free straw hats are available), it’s a visually striking place, offering great views over the medina as well as a chilled atmosphere. The menu features mostly Moroccan and international dishes that change daily and are complemented by specials chalked on blackboards and bought to your table. The salads and brochettes are popular, but while portions are generous the food can be lacklustre. There’s no alcohol license at the time of writing although the owners have applied. If successful, the place should do a roaring trade as a nocturnal hub as well as a daytime café.
