The Abbey
The Abbey is hard to find (look out for the tiny sign above the door), and inside it’s rather like an English pub – a wooden affair, with wooden bar stools and a row of tables overlooked by an abstract Madonna painting – but it has the soul of a dive bar.
In fact The Abbey bills itself as the oldest bar on Miami Beach, a claim that would anger the crowd down at Club Deuce if they were sober enough to take it in.
Locals love to drink here when they are fed up with South Beach, or when they just want a bit of innocent chitchat, so artificiality and pretension are left at the door, behind which the dartboard is located.
The Abbey offers five of its own brews, including a stout, as well as serving commercial beers. Do not, whatever you do, order a mojito.
