In the Ambassador, one of the most glamorous bars in San Francisco, thirty-one crystal chandeliers twinkle against large wall mirrors and a Carrara marble bar. Matching leather U-shaped booths, mainly reserved for pricey bottle service, are plugged into private telephones for ordering more booze or buzzing the hotties two tables over. The buzzing scene can feel more LA than SF, catering to the next generation of social mavens in the season’s latest fashions. But with a roster of world-renowned DJs and a sexy little mezzanine ideal for dates, the bar does manage to lure the locals.
And did we mention the location? Barhoppers drawn to the TL (Tenderloin) usually wind up at the Ambassador after making the rounds at neighbouring bars Swig and Rye. Despite a posh interior and a rep as a hot spot on the see-and-be-seen circuit, the Ambassador has a pretty easygoing vibe.
After 10pm, the place gets packed, and competition at the door can be
fierce. Groups of 6-8 should reserve a booth. That bottle of Cristal may
not be cheap, but skipping the line is priceless.
