Hg2 : The Hedonist

The Black Hoof

The cabin-style patio of The Black Hoof is a particularly popular for eating out in Toronto, while inside it’s dark and effortlessly cool. There’s a palpable excitement in the place and its fueled by a glance at the chalkboard menu, which sorts the wheat from the chaff and scoffs at the squeamish.

Owners Grant and Jen have taken on board the sort of nose-to-tail dining that has begun to typify Modern British cuisine, think raw horse sandwich with hot sauce, lamb’s tongue on brioche and fried sweetbreads with chanterelles and peas. Still reading? Then be assured of tasty, bold flavours and delicate presentation. The charcuterie board is a must, with an elegant display of cured and smoked meats, paper-thin lardo, pates and terrines. It truly is melt-in-the-mouth stuff. The vibe is fun, the crowd youthful, and the servers have personality. Just tune out thoughts of loveable Disney animals, grab the bull by the horns and eat it.
