Hg2 : The Hedonist

The Forge

The Forge is more than just one of the many restaurants in Miami but an institution, a place where mobsters, presidents and movie stars used to dine shoulder-to-shoulder.

Re-designed by Al Malnik in 1969 and immediately heralded as Miami’s most glamorous destination, The Forge attracted Frank Sinatra, Richard Nixon and a glittering cast of legendary figures.

Inside, activity at The Forge epicentres at the bar, which separates three adjoining dining areas. The rooms are all wood-panelled with stained-glass ceilings and windows that overlook a mix of hip SoBe scenesters and wannabe gangsters who chomp firmly on cigars while their unbuttoned shirts expose some tasty gold chains.

The food at The Forge is excellent, but perhaps the most impressive aspect is the wine cellar, with a list 50 pages long.

Wednesday is The Forge’s big night, when the rather clumsy DJ cranks things up as dinner finishes before unleashing his team of cabaret dancers. Eating here gives you automatic entrance to Jimmy’z club next door.
