The Honigmond Garden Hotel
There are two Honigmond hotels in Berlin; this is the more upmarket one. It’s tucked away in the quieter backstreets of Mitte, and so enjoys a peaceful but central location. Wooden rafters and four-poster beds in several of the rooms give the Honigmond a romantic charm somewhat lacking in other Berlin establishments. Rooms are all unique; the more striking ones can be found in the hotel’s oldest wing, dating back to 1845. Winding oak staircases lead up to each floor and decorative touches – such as suits of armour – create a stately atmosphere. Downstairs, a pleasant breakfast room looks out onto a Tuscan-style garden where several apartments are also available. Particularly pleasant is the largest of the garden apartments, which benefits from its own sun terrace and water fountain. Best of all, this regal residence, fit for a king, comes at a price his subjects can also afford.
