Hg2 : The Hedonist

The Mark

The ‘recession be damned’ attitude of deluxe hotels in New York’s Upper East may smack of egos run riot, but the minds behind The Mark are more than confident that its winning ways justify the hefty price tag. After closing in January 2007 for its over-the-top overhaul, it has been reinvigorated by French interior wizard Jacques Grange as a hotel-residence – with 42 units ready for occupation (Hey, if you like, you stay!) – and has been lauded as an opulent, Art Deco triumph. There are 118 divine hotel rooms, decked in custom-designed furtniture, that leave no luxury out, as well as a Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurant, a Frederic Fekkai salon, and the seductive and old-school Bar Mark. It’s a five-star experience available to the wealthiest of the jet set, who value exclusivity above all else.
