Another one of those London brasseries where food is too pretty to eat. The fashion crowd have been tottering into the delightful ground-floor tearoom of bon viveur Mourad Mazouz’s multi-tasking and multi-million-pound Sketch since it opened in 2002. A dainty, buttoned-up salon for 50 is playfully decorated with furniture new and old, opulent fabrics, skull lampshades, and futuristic chandeliers resembling planetary constellations; doll-like waitresses are packaged in b Store frocks (see Shop), while menus and bills are delivered inside antique books. And on those menus? An expansive tea list (all the right single-estate loose leaves from Japan, China and India) conceived by Sketch’s French superchef Pierre Gagnaire (see Eat), plus champagne, cocktails and a wine list of 30 bins. Oh and the food: a central patisserie counter boasts picturesque cakes, viennoiseries, and all you could need for a cream tea (served from 3pm), plus breakfast and all-day comfort food of the sushi/fancy salad/macaroni cheese variety. The main draw, however, is an invitation to one of the many fashion parties hosted here. Generating enough gossip to dine out on for weeks, it’s no wonder the fash pack is off their food.
