The Rose Bar
No plan is failsafe in the world of New York nightlife. But when odds are stacked so far in your favor, as in the case of this stylish, Spanish-style salon on the ground floor of Ian Schrager’s Gramercy Park Hotel, things can go very, very right. Giants of the entertainment and media world flock to this airy, refined boîte conceived by artist Julian Schnabel, who custom-designed the furniture and selected important works by Cy Twombley, Warhol, Basquiat, and, yes, himself to grace the walls. An impressive hearth and billiards table give it a warm, clubby edge, and the adjoining Jade Bar is a continuation of the cool, only presented in a glowing green. Drinks aren’t cheap but, goodness, are they made with flair.
