The Whymper-Stube is one of the more affordable hotels in Zermatt, but that doesn’t mean to say that the standards are any lower. Set beside the Monte Rosa hotel – where Edward Whymper and his team set off to climb the Matterhorn in 1865 – the Whymper-Stube offers old-fashioned food in old-world surroundings.

As you’d expect, the food is hearty mountain fare with piled-high plates served with a smile; it’s all very reasonably priced, too, which adds to its allure. A real gem.
