Three Shadows

Located north of 798 in the art district known as Caochangdi, the Three Shadows Photography Art Center’s gallery was designed by renowned Chinese artist and architect, Ai Wei Wei. The center is the foremost platform for photography and video art in China and was founded in 2007 by two leading Asian photographers, RongRong from China and Inri from Japan. They have an important permanent collection of original works from Man Ray to Li Yongbin, as well as a library of over 2,000 books, journals and catalogues on photography and video art. Exhibitions have included Ai Wei Wei’s New York Photographs 1983-1993″ and Wang Binglong’s “1979-1989: Chinese Opera Calendar Photography.” There is also a bright and airy café where you can enjoy traditional Chinese dishes and a store selling limited edition photographic prints and catalogues.”
