With its Romantic-era feastly mural and Michelangelo repros, Italian pottery in up-lit glass wall cabinets, and pretty buttery-colored tablecloths, Tommaso’s is un-abashedly going for the feel of thematic Italian-American with the robustness of a belted out aria – and, actually, chef/owner Thomas “Tommaso” Verdillo may give you a little bit of his own theater, belting out a bit of a number or two with his lovely tenor voice.

But, as Daniel Boulud’s wine director Daniel Johnnes and chef Michael Lomanaco wisely intone, it’s the wine and the food that are the stars of the show here, where Lomanaco says, “If the delicious old-world Italian food isn’t more than enough, the amazing wine cellar will rock you. Just be sure to ask the owner, Thomas Verdillo – who can also sing you an aria from Turandot – to find something off-list and well-aged.”
