Tote on the Turf is designed by Serie Architects, a Mumbai-London based firm behind the futuristic design of Blue Frog, this is Rahul Akerkar’s latest venture. Akerkar, who already runs the renowned Indigo restaurant in Colaba, looked to Serie to redesign the iconic Royal Western India Turf Club Mumbai race venue at Mahalaxmi. The result is dazzling, to say the least. The bar, spanning two levels, is a one-stop groove spot with a maximalist decor of triangular panels and vaulted interiors designed to symbolise the trees outside.

There are all-day and dinner menus at Tote on the Turf, so whatever time you come you can choose from a range of Western barbeques, risottos, pastas and Middle Eastern fare, as well as a proper bar menu; nearly always hard to find elsewhere in Mumbai. The food is as outstanding as the location and décor, but don’t just take our word for it: Tote beat over 500 bars globally to win the Best Bar Design award in 2010 at the Restaurant and Bar Design Awards in London.
