Tram ATMosfera
For passive tourism, a Milanese meal and the chance to travel on the city’s historic tram system without ending up in Timbuktu, Milan’s public transport network has launched the AT- Mosphera. Dating from the 1930s, this original tram has been gently tweaked: the varnished teak walls and coupe glass lanterns are now paired with period upholstered benches and metres of white linens. Reserve a table at least one day in advance, taking your pick of the five-course menus on offer (meat, fish or veggie), and nibble your way through a slow tour of the city centre. The two and a half hour round trip catches most of Milan’s major monuments – Castello Sforzesco, La Scala, Cimitero Monumentale, the Navigli, Colonne San Lorenzo and the Duomo. At lunchtime, it’s necessary to book out the entire tram.
