UMA: Massage and Yoga
On the chic side of New Age (if there is such a thing), you’ll find no tie-dye fabrics or dangling dream-catchers here. Rather, bare pink walls, light pine floorboards, a library stocked with the usual array of lifestyle guru books and a small tearoom where you can sip an Ayurvedic tea or get a herbal remedy fix.
The slogan at UMA is L’art du mouvement et du bien-être (‘the art of movement and well-being’), probably because you can practise yoga not for just one hour but for four hours at a time (that’s a lot of movement for €35), as well as experience the innovative ‘Gyrotonic’ yoga technique (which involves a machine much like you’d find in a medieval torture chamber – only it’s supposed to be good for you).
They also take massage extremely seriously here, using techniques from all over the world (India, China, Thailand, Japan). Try the Indian ‘Pichauli’ for €100, where two sets of hands rub you down with warm essential oils. Pure heaven.
