A mountain escape with
panoramic views of Zürich, the Alps and the lake, Uto Kulm is one of the most unusual hotels in Zürich. Located on Uetliberg, just twenty minutes by train from the Hauptbahnhof, you
enter another world as you pootle up through the woods. Accessible only on
foot, the hotel is a ten-minute walk from the station, although the elderly and
the disabled will be collected by car, along with heavy luggage.
Dating from 1815, the hotel has a
modern extension and a stunning glass fronted restaurant looking down the
mountain. Popular for conferences, weddings and other events, the Lifestyle rooms
are pretty basic and most lack a view, somewhat surprising as this is the
entire point of the hotel. However the romantic suites are a different
proposition, notably the Tower suite, with its terrace, Jacuzzi, Swedish stove
and starry lights above the bed.
Open all year, the hotel gives access to a
snowy wonderland for winter fun – think tobogganing, glüwein and a sauna to warm up – and glorious walking and biking
all year round.
