Vassa Eggen has been one of the most popular places to dine in the centre of town since it opened in 1999. Its success is a result of the combination of a prime location on Birger Jarlsgatan, inventive modern cooking with a hint of a Mediterranean accent, excellent waiters who know their stuff and an extremely cool décor. At lunchtime it’s popular with the expense account crowd, but in the evening it attracts a more varied clientele. By the way, the restaurant’s name, ‘The Sharp Edge’, is taken from the W. Somerset Maugham novel known in English as The Razor’s Edge. In 2007, the owners opened a terrific deli-style café just across the road called Albert and Jack’s (Engelbrektsgatan 3). It bakes all its breads on the premises and is perfect if you would prefer an easy-but-excellent lunch on the go rather than fine dining at the parent restaurant.
