Vefa Bozacisi
This beautifully tiled 1930s spot, one of the prettiest, most atmospheric cafés in Istanbul and well worth a visit, is not far from the bazaar quarter in a taxi.
It’s primarily famous for making boza, a traditional fermented millet drink served up by smartly uniformed staff from marble tubs in winter, and sira, a sparkling grape drink, on sale in summer. Vefa’s strong vinegar is also renowned and you can stock up on bottles of it to take home.
