Vertaliot Public Lounge
As is often the case with venues in Almaty, Vertaliot – meaning ‘helicopter’ in Russian – is huge. But despite its size, the range of seating on offer (from booths to alcoves) means there’s always a cosy nook to curl up in. The waiters are particularly attentive, and although the menu may seem uninspiring at first glance, the food itself is surprisingly good. But Vertaliot is at its busiest on weekend nights, when it is the starting point for a young trendy crowd, and eating takes a backseat to drinking and partying. The terrace is easily the biggest in town, and during the summer it’s an irresistible draw for those seeking sun and style.
