VIP
This place used to be known as ‘Star’s House’. Then they ripped the inside out, refurbished it and renamed it, and now it’s called VIP. Seemingly it has done the place wonders, since it’s gone from being regarded as a mediocre venue into a pretty decent place for a night out in Marrakech.
Any nervousness provoked by the neon tunnel that leads downstairs should be disregarded. As soon as you take a right turn into the venue proper you find what is perhaps the closest the city centre gets to a normal nightclub – more neon, a swish bar and lots of seating. The DJ seems to know his house and techno a bit better than many others, and is quite capable of whipping the floor into a frenzy.
Turn left after the aforementioned tunnel and you end up in the midst of quite a different scene – the surreal world of Moroccan cabaret where musicians passionately saw strings and hammer synths, and singers and dancers entertain a mostly local crowd. You can skip happily from room to room, but the management somewhat meanly prevents you taking your drinks in between.
