One of the best-known bars in Madrid, Viva Madrid is tucked away off the main drag of the Gran Via and is still heaving most nights. Viva Madrid is particularly popular with expats and overseas students, as well as with locals who want to meet them. Everyone is soon tapping their feet to cheesy, commercial tunes that can’t fail to get people dancing.
Upstairs, tilted mirrors on each wall make the rooms appear bigger, and mean that you can check out the talent without being noticed. Be prepared to fight your way to the bar at weekends, but if you’re lucky, you will have gotten there early and secured a table out front for a much more civilised experience. If you can’t face the crowds, check this place out in the day so you can fully appreciate its tiled décor, romantic prints and vaulted ceiling.
