Walking

In town

A stroll along the lake is a quintessential Zürich experience.
From Bürkliplatz (at the top of Bahnhofstrasse), the nicest walk is along the lakeside promenade on the east side of
the lake. A wide, elegant boulevard takes you past swans and walkers up to Zürichhorn
(around 2km), an immaculate park that’s home to the Le Corbusier centre, Museum
Bellerive
(see Sights) and the Kiosk café (see Cafés).

If you have less time, head in the opposite direction from
Bürkliplatz to Enge park. Heading
along the south side of the lake, this narrow park is popular with sunbathers
and workers grabbing a little R&R over lunch. Great lakeside views, nicely
groomed flowerbeds and a small aviary with some interesting birds make it a
charming spot for a stroll. A little further on in Enge, the Rieterpark offers 83,000 square yards
of verdant landscaped garden and parkland.

For a more urban cityscape, you can walk the length of the Limmat river. Starting from the lake,
you pass through the Altstadt’s medieval charms and see the city getting
progressively more modern before you hit industrial buildings and graffiti
around Kreis 5. We’d recommend walking as far as Oberer Letten badi (see Things to do), then you can walk back
through Kreis 5 to the city centre.

Around the lake

The truly energetic can walk route 84, a 115km track that
circles Lake Zürich, taking in gorgeous countryside and pretty towns along the
way.
