Westfield London
For some, it’s a heaven on earth – the size of 30 football pitches and built at a cost of £1.6 billion in 2008, London’s largest shopping centre spans the market, from Debenhams to Dior, Levi’s to Louis Vuitton, Mango to Miu Miu – 265 retailers, 80% fashion, and 40 of ’em within the designer apartheid, The Village (offering ‘handsfree shopping’, with valets doing the dirty work). Others revile it as nothing more than a cloneville, with identikit chains, climate control and piped music, not to mention it taking so long to get anywhere, it obstructs one’s three meals a day. Just as well there are nearly 50 eateries (including The Real Greek, Wahaca, Yo Sushi!), and, of course, a champagne bar.
