Willoughby & Co.
Ask locals to recommend sushi restaurants in Cape Town and more often than not they’ll point you in the direction of Willoughby. Serving up the best sushi in town, this is just about the only Waterfront restaurant that’s likely to show up on any Capetonian’s regular list of essential dining experiences, even if it can feel a bit more like a pitstop that an opportunity to settle in for any length of time. Located inside the mall, with all the neon lighting and non-stop flow of passersby (almost every single one of them begrudging the fact that you’re enjoying the best sushi in town while they attend to more mundane matters), this is certainly a first-rate prospect if you’ve been shopping at the Waterfront, or simply a sushi addict keen to add your vote. Don’t ignore the more elaborate offerings on the menu (all the seafood is super fresh, and there’s a fresh fish counter if you feel like preparing something yourself), and do make sure your server-good-looking, but perhaps a bit distracted by the demanding mob of diners-gives you an unabbreviated run-down of what’s interesting and likely to have escaped your attention.
