Hg2 : The Hedonist

When happy hour calls and you want one of those San Francisco bars with strong cocktails, a little flirting, and some intelligent conversation, head to Wish, a bar and lounge where a sexy, uplifting energy gets started with the close of the work day. Locals pack into this corridor of a space to mix, mingle, unwind, and talk, all the while keeping an eye on the surrounding action. The good-looking crowd is mixed, from alternative-style hipsters to trendy types out to show off their skimpy new outfit to media professionals and other 20-30-ish worker bees. Décor that’s a step up from the norm-plush leather couches, artful lighting, and mahogany woodwork-adds a touch of class. Black and crimson tones and candlelight create a sultry ambiance. Wish is the epitome of cool in SoMa, one of the city’s coolest neighbourhoods. Expect to see yuppies bellying up to the bar next to bikers and biker chicks. The diversity works to add a bit of intrigue to the mix. The space is small, but comfortable, with low lighting and sectional couches scattered about. The music tends toward old-school, whether the genre be hip-hop or new wave. Wish is one of the few bars in SF open on Mondays, so it’s an unusually busy (read: crowded, sexy) night.
