Hg2 : The Hedonist

Quite literally too cool for school, Xenix’s wooden pavilion
was built over 100 years ago as an overflow classroom for a neighbouring school.
It became an arthouse cinema and bar in the 80s, born out of 1980’s protests
about underfunding of the arts. The cinema remains, but these days the bar is
as much of a draw.

In summer, the arty, filmy crowd spill out over the gravel
square from late afternoon, drinks in hand; in winter, they stay inside the
attractive white wood pavilion and prop up the long wooden bar. Laid-back and
local, the scene is immensely mellow.

Showing interesting cinema for interested
people, Xenix has a thematic programme, focusing on filmmakers, directors and national
cinema, shown in the original language and prefaced with a short introduction.
