The Los Angeles Times has called Zankou Chicken the best chicken in the city, joining the legions of diehard fans who have been saying the same thing about this highly agreeable Armenian by way of Beirut eatery for years. These birds are magnificent – spit-roasted, tender, flavorful, and featuring a crispy skin so otherworldly we’ve actually slapped a wandering hand attempting to sample ours. Go for the hefty half-chicken plates rather than ordering a full order, which doesn’t come with the hummus, pickles, or highly addictive garlic sauce. The wraps are also ridiculously good. You can’t really go wrong anywhere on the menu – falafel, shawarma, etc. – and it’s cheap, too, making up for its somewhat lacklustre location and less-than-lovely décor. Unsurprisingly, the buzz has caused an explosion of Zankou Chicken outlets across Los Angeles and there are now eight outlets spread across the city.
