It would be hard to find a more romantic spot for dinner on a summer’s evening than on the 9th-floor roof terrace of the Institute du Monde Arabe – where one can enjoy delightful North African cooking while gazing at a grapefruit-coloured sun spilling its warm light over the landmark rooftops of Paris. Even on balmy evenings, a breeze can threaten to whisk a salad leaf or light slip of pitta off to the next table, so come prepared with additional clothing to drape over you. The food, while more expensive than the Mosquée, isn’t necessarily better – but guests really come for the view. The décor, inside the restaurant, is a bit hit-and-miss – a dark pink, star-patterned carpet in need of revamping clashes with the rather shiny red and yellow drapery covering the chairs – but the predominantly Parisian crowd bring their home-grown elegance to the place.
